Planting Tomatoes

We planted our first crop of tomatoes in the beginning of May. Here's a quick look at how we plant tomatoes.

Before planting we plow the field.

Drip irrigation and black plastic are laid down in the field. The black plastic allows for a more controlled growing environment by decreasing weeds, regulating water intake and increasing the soil temperature to speed up the growing process.

The planter makes holes in the plastic that are 24 inches apart and a few inches deep. During planting, one tomato plant is placed in each hole along with liquid fertilizer.

Here are a few rows of tomatoes after planting.
