Planting Tomato Transplants

Since we grow over 40 acres of tomatoes, we need to have multiple plantings in succession in order to be able to supply you with tomatoes all season long! We begin with our first planting during May, when there are no more signs of frost. We plant each of the remaining fields about a week apart.

Before planting we plow the field.
The planter makes holes in the plastic that are 24 inches apart and a few inches deep. During planting, one tomato plant is placed in each hole along with liquid fertilizer.
Drip irrigation and black plastic are laid down in the field. The black plastic allows for a more controlled growing environment by decreasing weeds, regulating water intake and increasing the soil temperature to speed up the growing process.
